Signing a pre-contract for a player in January is one of the main concerns for any club, as they will get no transfer fee and the players gets to leave upon the expiry of the contract. The agents usually get a big paycheck in this case, so it often happens that these moves materialize. Catalan giants Barcelona are aiming to secure not one but three signings for the summer, by agreeing a deal in January. Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum, Lyon’s Memphis Depay and Manchester City’s Eric Garcia all have the opportunity to sign a pre-contract in January for Blaugrana.
With the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager, Liverpool’s midfielder Gini Wijnaldum was immediately linked with a move there. He is very fond of his Dutch compatriot, especially since he managed him for a few years while he was the manager of the Netherlands national team. Wijnaldum rose to become one of the most influential players for the national team and could follow to Camp Nou. The contract extension is nowhere in sight, as the Reds prepare for a life without Klopp’s most-used player.
Memphis Depay is one of the most exciting player whose contract runs out in June and Barcelona are hoping to land his signature first. Depay had a disappointing spell in England, but his form in Lyon was extraordinary and he might be able to replicate that in Spain. His pace and agility will come in handy on the wing and together with Griezmann and Dembele he might form a partnership for years to come (that’s of course if Messi leaves).
Eric Garcia is probably the most certain of these options and there is a chance he might even join in January. Garcia was one of the prominent members of La Masia, before deciding to leave for Manchester City. However, that has not turned out the way he wanted, as Guardiola’s rotation policy limited him to just sixteen appearances in three years. Still only 19, Garcia might “do a Pique” and return to a club where it all started and be the backbone of Barcelona’s defense for many years to come.
