Spanish giants Barcelona have been given permission by La Liga to sign an emergency replacement forward. The Catalan giants are short on attacking options, and with the current period falling outside the transfer window, needed special permission to proceed with the transfer, and have now been given the green light by the authorities.
However rules made by the RFEF ensure that Barca can only sign a free agent or a player attached to a fellow Spanish club within the next fifteen days. Among those reportedly shortlisted are Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez, Alaves’ Lucas Perez, Levante’s Roger Marti and Leganes’ Martin Braithwaite.
Angel was on the scoresheet for Getafe over the weekend at the Nou Camp as they were edged by the Catalans. If it was an audition for him, the Getafe striker certainly passed it with flying colours.
Braithwaite reportedly has a release clause of 20 million euros, but what complicates matters is Leganes’ position in the league. The striker’s goals could potentially be the difference between them staying up and going down, and should Barca decide to acquire him, Leganes would not be able to sign a replacement. The club are currently second from bottom in the La Liga table, having picked up 19 points from 24 games at the time of writing.
