Aston Villa are set to make Gareth Barry their highest paid player by offering him a new £65,000 a week contract. The Villa skipper stayed at the Midlands club despite interest from Liverpool last summer, and with Martin O’Neill’s team failing to break into the Champions league this season, Barry is widely expected to move to Anfield this summer.
Barry has one year left on his Aston VIlla contract. Villa’s current highest paid player is Ashley Young, who reportedly earns £55K/week.
Bulgarian midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has already put pen to paper a new deal at Villa Park, and club officials are hoping that Barry will follow in his footsteps and commit his future to the Villans.
