Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton has revealed that he was mighty close to signing for Arsenal in the recently concluded transfer window. Barton said that he had held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and was on the verge of putting pen to paper for the Gunners before his role in Gervinho’s sending off on the opening day of the season saw talks stall.
Newcastle played Arsenal in the opening day of the season but Barton was involved in a scuffle with Ivorian Gervinho that saw the latter get sent off. Barton said that if he had not played against Arsenal that day, he might have ended up at the Emirates Stadium instead of Loftus Road.
