Bayern Munich have officially completed the signing of youngster Mathys Tel from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais. The Bavarians have paid Rennes a whopping 28.5m euros for the 17-year-old’s services, with 20m euros to be given upfront and the 8.5m remainder in add-ons. Tel, who captained France to Euro U-17 glory earlier this year, has put pen to paper a five-year contract that will keep him at the Allianz Arena till the summer of 2027.
Tel broke Eduardo Camavinga’s record of being the youngest player to feature in a senior game for Rennes when he debuted against Brest in August last year. He is very highly regarded in French circles, with some saying he could be the next Kylian Mbappe.
Bayern have spent heavily in the current window, with Tel following the likes of Sadio Mane, Matthijs de Ligt and Ryan Gravenberch as big-money acquisitions. They have spent nearly 150 million euros this summer- a stunning sum for a club that has generally been conservative in its transfer strategy in recent years.
The Bavarian giants also have a sizeable French speaking contingent at the club, which should also make it easier for young Tel to adapt to life in Munich.
