Newly promoted Premier League side Brentford have moved to sign Frank Onyeka from Danish club Midtjylland. The fee for the Nigerian midfielder was undisclosed but he has put pen to paper a five year deal which will keep him with the Bees till the summer of 2026.
There are a number of Danish players already at Brentford- Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen, Mads Bistrup and Mads Roerslev to name a few. The Bees will be playing in the Premier League for the first time in their history in the 21/22 campaign. They narrowly missed out on automatic qualification from the Championship after finishing third between Norwich and Watford, but duly saw off Bournemouth and Swansea in the playoffs to earn a deserved promotion to the top flight.
Onyeka joined Midtjylland from Ebedei in his native Nigeria as a teenager back in 2016, and made over 120 appearances for the Superliga outfit during his stint in Denmark. He has also been capped by the Super Eagles at national level, making his debut for them last year against Algeria.
Brentford owner Matthew Benham has a majority shareholding in Midtjylland, and Onyeka is the Bees’ first signing after they earned promotion. Brentford will play Arsenal in their season opener next month
