In a major coup of sorts, Glasgow Celtic have manager to sign Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane on loan till the end of the season. Keane, a lifelong Celtic fan, was not getting enough games at White Hart Lane as Redknapp preferred Defoe and Crouch over the Irishman. This is the first spell in Scottish football for the 29 year old and he has expressed his desire to win the Scottish title for Celtic ahead of their bitter rivals Rangers.
Keane signed a loan deal with Leeds earlier in his career when he was at Inter Milan. Later, he went on the join Leeds on a permanent basis. Keane remained coy when asked whether he would sign a permanent deal with Celtic at the end of the loan period. Keane will fill the void left by the departure of Scott McDonald to Middlesbrough.
Robbie Keane became the fourth Celtic signing on deadline day after Diomansy Kamara, Edson Braafheid and Paul Slane. He will wear the number 7 jersey at Parkhead which was worn previously by Celtic stars like Henrik Larsson. With Keane at his disposal, Tony Mowbray would be hoping to overturn the ten point advantage that Rangers have midway through the season.
