Alex McLeish has pulled off a major coup by signing Tottenham midfielder David Bentley on loan till the end of the season. Bentley had not been getting any playing time at White Hart Lane with Lennon occupying the right-wing spot. Bentley has welcomed the loan move and said that the move would help him ‘resurrect his career’.
David Bentley’s crossing ability and quality in dead-ball situations caught the League’s fancy in 2008. A big move money, rumoured to be around £15 million followed, and the winger transferred from Blackburn to Tottenham. His career at Tottenham never took off. He made just 42 appearances in three years for the London side, scoring on only three occasions. Bentley is expected to be in the Birmingham squad for the weekend’s Midlands derby against Aston Villa.
After securing Bentley’s services, McLeish is also hoping to sign Scottish forward Kenny Miller in the next few days. The Rangers forward has previous experience of playing in the League with Wolves and Derby County.
On the other hand, Sebastien Larsson is staying with the Midlands club, at least for the time being. His proposed move to Newcastle fell through as the club was not able to agree personal terms with the Swede.
