Birmingham City have completed the signing of American defender Jonathan Spector on a free transfer. USA international Spector, 25, has signed a two year contract at St.Andrew’s and becomes Blues boss Chris Hughton’s seventh signing of the 2011 summer window.
Spector was a free agent after being released by West Ham United, with whom he had spent the last five years, and was linked in the media with a switch to Birmingham’s Championship rivals Leeds United.
Apart from West Ham, Spector has also represented Manchester United and Charlton in the Premier League. Primarily a defender, he can also fill in as a central midfielder if required. He was part of the USA roster at the 2010 World Cup but did not make any appearances at the actual tournament.
