Sheffield United have officially completed the signing of American defender Auston Trusty from Arsenal. The transfer fee wasn’t officially announced, but is rumoured to be in the £5m range, and the 24-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper a four-year-deal that will keep him at Bramall Lane till the summer of 2027.
Trusty had joined the Gunners from Philadelphia Union in January 2022, but didn’t make a single competitive appearance for them. He however had a very successful loan stint last season at Birmingham City, making 48 appearances for them across all competitions, and was voted Player of the Season by their supporters.
Sheffield United earned automatic promotion from the Championship last season after finishing second in the table behind champions Burnley. Apart from Trusty, they have already signed Yasser Larouci (on loan), Anis Slimane and Benie Traore in the current transfer window.
Trusty has been capped by the United States at various youth levels and earned his first senior cap earlier this year against Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League.
SUFC will host VfB Stuttgart this weekend in their final pre-season friendly game. They will begin the 23/24 Premier League season at home against Crystal Palace.
