Chelsea have officially announced the arrivals of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria after signing the duo on transfer deadline day. Aubameyang has completed a permanent switch from Barcelona for 12 million euros and has put pen to paper a two-year deal. Midfielder Zakaria has joined on loan from Serie A outfit Juventus, with Chelsea having the option to make the deal permanent should they so desire.
Aubameyang only moved last winter to Barcelona from Arsenal and scored 13 goals for the Blaugrana last season. The switch sees the Gabonese forward re-unite with Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel, who managed him previously at Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea have been struggling for goals upfront and Tuchel will be hoping that Aubameyang, a proven perfomer at Premier League level, can solve those problems. His signing takes the Blues’ spending this summer to over £250m.
Chelsea will pay the entirety of Zakaria’s wages during his stint at the Bridge, and can make the deal permanent for around £30m. Like Aubameyang, Zakaria had left his previous club (Borussia Monchengladbach) for Juve only last winter.
Tuchel’s men are 10th in the Premier League after five rounds and will take on London rivals West Ham United this weekend.
