Chelsea are one of the clubs identified as a possible destination for David Alaba next season if the Austrian international decides to leave Bayern Munich. The defender’s contract at the Allianz Arena ends next summer and he has been unable to agree a new deal with the Bavarian giants despite several rounds of talks between the club and the player’s agent Pini Zahavi.
While Bayern would ideally like Alaba to stay, his wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block and the German champions are now resigned to losing the versatile 28-year-old, who has been in Munich for more than a decade.
Alaba is said to prefer a move to La Liga- ideally Real Madrid or Barcelona, but his agent has also identified both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain as potential destinations for his client. It would however be interesting to see if the Blues can meet his reported £350,000 a week wage demands, which eclipses even the £310,000 a week the club currently pay record signing Kai Havertz.
Alaba is versatile- capable of playing both on the left side and centre of defence as well as central midfield, and at 28, still has several of his best years ahead of him. He was at centre back when Bayern beat PSG in the Champions League final earlier this year.
