Chelsea have officially completed the signing of defender Benoit Badiashile from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. The 21-year-old has put to paper a seven-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge till the summer of 2030. The transfer fee wasn’t officially revealed but sources have it to be around the 37–38m euro mark.
Badiashile has made over 100 league appearances for ASM since making his debut for them as a teenager back in 2018. He primarily operates as a left sided centre back. Chelsea have been working towards revamping their ageing backline, and Badiashile’s signing comes after they also added Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana to their squad in the summer.
The 21-year-old Badiashile has been capped by France at various youth levels and earned his first senior cap for Les Bleus in the Nations League last September. Badiashile’s last two seasons with Monaco saw the principality outfit finish third in Ligue 1 (2020/21 and 21/22)
Chelsea are 10th in the Premier League at the time of writing, and were beaten 1-0 by defending champions Manchester City in their last league game. They will again square off against the Citizens this weekend- this time in the FA Cup.
