Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has opted to further his career in Serie A after joining Italian giants Roma for a fee of 40 million euros. Roma are managed by Jose Mourinho, Abraham’s former gaffer at Chelsea, and the 23-year-old striker has put pen to paper a five-year-deal that will keep him at the Olimpico till the summer of 2026.
Roma were on the lookout for a forward after selling Edin Dzeko to Inter (who had themselves sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea), and Abraham’s switch effectively completes a transfer merry-go-around between the three clubs.
Chelsea have also added a buyback clause into the deal and can potentially trigger it for around 80 million euros beginning the summer of 2023.
Abraham was the subject of interest from many Premier League clubs- Arsenal and West Ham in particular, but has opted for a fresh challenge by moving to Serie A. Roma finished 7th in Italy last season.
Abraham has scored 30 goals in 82 appearances for Chelsea and came through the Blues’ academy. He has also previously had loan stints at Bristol City, Swansea and Aston Villa and has also been capped six times at senior level by England.
