Championship Middlesbrough are believed to interested in signing French striker Olivier Giroud. The 23 year-old currently plies his trade at FC Tours. His progress has also been monitored by big French sides Lille, PSG, Monaco and Auxerre.
Boro are looking to sign the youngster despite the heavy interest in the striker who has already got into double figures with his club this season. Giroud’s representative Dr Thorleif Schonfeld told Sky Sports news:
“There is some interest, that is true yes. But a lot of clubs are looking at Olivier, from France, Italy and Germany.”
Giroud is considered an ‘English type’ centre forward. He revealed: “That is my opinion, yes – he likes to hold up the ball and is good with his back to the goal,”
The fact Middlesbrough are currently in the Championship is a negative for the player.
“He is playing in the second division in France at the moment, but the second division in England is much different – it is just below the Premier League and is of a very high standard, so that would not be an issue,” revealed Schonfeld.
However Giroud’s future maybe not be decided till the summer when he will be a free agent.
