Boro complete St Ledger deal as they close on Folan

Championship side Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Preston defender Sean St Ledger on-loan with a view to a permanent transfer in January. The North East side have been in talks with North End for the last few weeks and they have finally captured their man.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate revealed: “I’m really delighted to be able to bring Sean in. He’s somebody we think is already a class act. He reads the game really well, he’s got great composure and we think he’ll be a good foil for our other centre-halves.”

The 24 year-old won Preston Player of the Season last season and is highly rated at Deepdale. However the former Peterborough star is in the last year of his contract and could leave for nothing next summer. St Ledger will go straight in to Boro’s squad for their game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Middlesbrough have also agreed a loan deal for Hull City striker Celeb Folan with a view to a permanent transfer in the January window. The 26 year-old is expected to sign by the end of the week. He started the first four Premier League games for the Tigers, but the arrivals of Jozy Altidore, Kamil Ghilas and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has saw him frozen out at the KC Stadium.
