Middlesbrough have completed the signing of former Reading striker Leroy Lita on a free transfer. He has signed a three year deal with the Riverside club. The 24-year old tempremental striker was released by Reading after four year long stay at the Madjeski stadium. He scored 24 goals in 77 appearances for Reading during his stay. Lita had offers from Sheffield United, Leicester and Norwich but choose to join Gareth Southgate’s team in their bid to bounce back directly into the Premiership. Lita had spent the last year of his Reading contract at Norwich where he netted seven times in 16 appearances.
Lita joins Boro to take the place vacated by Mido. The Egyptian striker failed to make an impact with Boro and has now joined his hometown club Zamalek on an year long loan deal. Mido signed for Boro from Tottenham in a £6m transfer in August 2007.But after Boro’s relegation from the top flight, Mido failed to turn up for the first few training sessions indicating his desire to leave the club. Mido moves back to Africa after having played for seven different European clubs.
Earlier this week, Southgate told Middlesbrough’s official website a deal for Mido to leave the club was close.
“We’ve agreed a one-year loan deal with Zamalek for Mido.
“We hope that will go through soon. We need another striker in the squad,” he said.
