Brighton & Hove Albion have officially announced the signing of midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund. The German medio will officially link up with the Seagulls when his contract with BVB ends on July 1, and has put pen to paper a four-year-contract which will keep him at the Amex Stadium till the summer of 2027.
Dahoud thus becomes Brighton’s third signing of the current transfer window after Joao Pedro and James Milner. Dahoud and Milner’s additions will bring depth to their midfield, especially with Alexis MacAllister having already left the club and Felipe Caicedo also looking likely to follow the Argentine out of the exit door.
Brighton have qualified for the Europa League as a result of their fine sixth placed league finish in the recently concluded 2022/23 season. That will also mean some congestion on the fixture front for Roberto de Zerbi’s men in 23/24.
The 27-year-old Dahoud began his career at Borussia Monchengladbach and played three seasons representing them in the German top flight before moving to Dortmund in 2017.
Dahoud was a Euro U21 winner with Germany and has also been capped twice at senior level by Die Mannschaft. He debuted against Turkey back in 2020.
