Northampton Town have completed the signing of goalkeeper Simon Brown on a short term contract till January. The 32 year-old opted to leave Brentford in July after his contract expired. The former Brentford keeper has also had stints at Colchester and Tottenham. He also won a Scottish League Cup winners medal while at Hibernian.
The Cobbler’s caretaker boss Ian Sampson is delighted to have signed the experienced keeper and is hoping it will help improve competition. He told the Northampton official website: “I think at this moment we need an experienced keeper at the club and we are pleased that Simon has agreed to join us,”
“I also think that Chris Dunn and the rest of the players will benefit from his arrival. Simon has a wealth of experience, having played both in England and Scotland and he is a good age for a keeper.
“We made contact earlier this week, Simon trained with us on Thursday and I am sure he will settle in quickly and can be a big help to us.
“The competition will be good for Chris Dunn and for his long term development he may well benefit from having a breather at this stage, although Simon knows Chris will be desperate to claim that shirt back and that is the way it should be.”
