Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is looking to add more depth to the Black Cats’ squad and has made a second bid for Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez. The 26-old forward who plays for Dortmund has been made available for sale and Sunderland have made a bid of about £4.2 million for their man. Valdez has not been prolific in front of goal in recent years but is known for his trickery and guile on the left flank. He has scored 16 goals in 113 appearances during his stint at Dortmund.
Bruce is also keen to carve out a move for 19-year old United striker Danny Welbeck. The teenager is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and impressed during his loan stint last season with Preston North End. Bruce wants Welbeck added to the squad before he takes his side to Portugal on a pre-season trip.
Bruce is also a big fan of Manchester City’s versatile defender Nedum Onouha. With the influx of foreign players like Jerome Boateng into city’s ranks, it has become difficult for Onouha to hold onto a first team place. A switch to the Stadium of Light could improve his playing time and England prospects.
