Championship club Charlton Athletic looks set to sign Northern Ireland international midfielder Sammy Clingan. The 28 year-old has been available on a free transfer since he left Coventry in the summer. The likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds are believed to have shown an interest in signing the midfielder but it now looks like he will be joining the Addicks.
Charlton boss Chris Powell is looking to strengthen the numbers in his squad, in order to ensure that the club stays in the second tier this season. The Addicks boss sees Clingan as another good midfield option to have.
Clingan has played most of his career in the lower leagues. The midfielder has played for Norwich, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Chesterfield. He will be hoping that regular first team football will keep him in the picture at international level.
