Chelsea have officially confirmed the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager, just a day after the Portuguese gaffer tendered his resignation to Porto by activating his 15 million euro release clause. Villas-Boas, who is only 33, the same age as Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, has signed a three year contract with the Blues.
Villas-Boas has previously worked at Chelsea, but as a part of the backroom staff of Jose Mourinho, the man he is often compared to in the press. He is Chelsea’s seventh manager in eight years and succeeds Carlo Ancelotti at the helm of affairs at the Bridge.
Villas-Boas is likely to take Radamel Falcao, Porto’s prolific Colombian striker, with him to the Bridge, remniscient of the way Mourinho brought in Ricardo Carvalho.
