Portuguese media reports this morning suggest that Chelsea are on the verge of a sensational swoop for FC Porto manager Andre Villas Boas, widely hailed as the next Jose Mourinho. Villas Boas guided Porto to a league and European Cup double last season and has a release clause of €15m ( around £13.2m) in his contract. Chelsea are reportedly ready to activate the clause and lure the young gaffer to Stamford Bridge.
Villas-Boas was long linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer, but the Nerazzurri declined to follow up on their interest saying that the release fee was too much for their liking.
Villas-Boas was part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom entourage when the latter was manager of Chelsea.
