Young Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne has moved to the Bundesliga to join Hamburg SV for a reported £3m. The transfer reunites Mancienne, 23, with Hamburg’s sporting director Frank Arnesen, who was Chelsea’s former scouting head. Mancienne has signed a four year contract with HSV.
Hamburg finished a lowly eighth in the Bundesliga last season and Mancienne will be hoping that he can play his part in getting them back to Europe.
Mancienne made limited appearances for Chelsea and is better known for his performances on loan at Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers, especially the latter. His contract with them was due to expire in June 2013.
Mancienne has been capped by England at various youth levels and will play for the U-21 squad at this summer’s European championships before joining his team mates in Germany.
