Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori will reportedly play his trade in Ligue 1 later this season, with reports suggesting that the defender will sign on loan for Stade Rennais. Several Premier League clubs- Leeds and West Ham in particular, have shown interest in Tomori in the past, but he is expected to join Rennes when the winter window reopens.
Chelsea and Rennes have already done business earlier this season, with SRFC goalkeeper Edouard Mendy moving to Stamford Bridge.
Tomori, a Chelsea youth graduate, has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of veteran Thiago Silva, but is still seen as an integral part of the club’s future plans, which is why he will only be loaned. He has already had three loan spells during his time at Stamford Bridge, with stints at Brighton, Hull and Derby respectively.
The Calgary born youngster has made only one Premier League appearance for the Blues this season- their 2-0 loss to defending champions Liverpool.
The 22-year-old has also been capped by England at senior level and made his debut against Kosovo in November last year. He however needs more regular game time if he harbours hopes of making the Three Lions’ squad for next summer’s European Championships, which explains this Rennes switch.
