Chelsea have defied the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA and have agreed to sign another 17-year old player from Croatia. The player in question is Croatian goalkeeper Matej Delac. The Blues have agreed a £2million fee for the 6 ft 3 in shot stopper with his current club Inter Zapresic. Delac had a medical on Friday which he passed successfully. He is the youngest player in the Croatian top division and has represented his national team at the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 levels.
Frank Arnesen, Director of Football at Chelsea, has been sending his scouts to Croatia to track the youngster’s progress since last season when he made his debut for Inter Zapresic. However, Chelsea would not be able to bring Delac to Stamford Bridge until January 2011 because of the transfer ban imposed on them.
Delac was recently called to the Croatian first team by Slaven Bilic as third choice goalkeeper. He was in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and England, but is yet to make his international debut. He stayed back in London after Wednesday’s match with England and agreed personal terms with Chelsea.
