Chelsea have become the latest club to show interest in Genk starlet Sander Berge. The 21-year-old Norwegian youngster has already attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and Napoli, as revealed earlier by his club’s sporting director Dimitri de Conde.
While the Blues are currently under a transfer embargo, they are set to appeal that decision in Switzerland, with a verdict expected to come out before the January window. Should the ruling be in their favour, it could see Berge look at Chelsea more closely as an option- the Londoners are giving their youngsters plenty of game time under new manager Frank Lampard, and also have a good relationship with Genk, from whom they’ve previously purchased both Thibault Courtois and Kevin de Bruyne.
Berge, who has already been internationally capped by Norway, has eighteen months left on his contract with Genk, having joined them from Valerenga in January 2017.
Genk are currently struggling in 9th in the Jupiler Pro League. The Blauw-Wit are the league’s defending champions, but are already a whopping 13 points behind rivals and table toppers Club Brugge, and have the worst goal scoring record of any club in the top ten currently.
