Premier League Chelsea are being linked with a move for Birmingham keeper Jack Butland. The Championship outfit are in poor financial health and the European Champions are hoping to take advantage of their poor financial footing.
Butland is one of the most highly-rated young English keepers and is considered second choice to Joe Hart in the England national team. The youngster has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs in recent months, including Everton, Liverpool and Southampton.
However, it seems that Chelsea have jumped to the head of the queue for the talented stopper. Chelsea current undisputed number one is Czech Republic international Petr Cech. There are however doubts over Cech’s backup Ross Turnbull, who has put in some poor performances while deputising for the Czech in recent games.
Butland would be seen as a backup to Cech for the next few seasons, but also as a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.
