According to reports in the press, Chelsea are prepared to take an £30m hit on star striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish forward is below Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and has not been used by Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas in crunch games, including the recent 2-1 win at home over Manchester City.
Chelsea purchased Torres from Liverpool earlier this year for £50m, thus making him the most expensive British transfer of all time, but the Spaniard has only shown glimpses of his past glory at the Bridge and has netted only three times in the league since his big money switch from Anfield.
Plenty of clubs are said to be willing to meet Chelsea’s valuation of Torres, but the biggest hindrance remains his wages- Torres earns somewhere around £150,000 a week in London.
