Bournemouth have completed the signing of defender Jack Stacey from Championship outfit Luton Town. The 23-year old was the Hatters’ Young Player of the Season in 18/19, and was linked with a switch to Celtic before the Cherries swooped for him. The transfer has cost Eddie Howe’s men £4m, with Stacey inking a four year deal at the Vitality Stadium.
Stacey is the second defender to be signed by Howe this summer- England U21 defender Liam Kelly made a £13m switch from Bristol City a few days ago. Howe has identified that position as an area needing reinforcement following Tyrone Mings’ sale to Aston Villa.
Bournemouth finished 14th in the Premier League last season but conceded a whopping 70 goals- only the relegated duo of Fulham and Huddersfield shipped in more.
Stacey started his career with Reading and had loan spells at Barnet, Carlisle and Exeter before joining Luton. His original deal with the Hatters was a two season one, but he earned an extra year thanks to their promotion, and was contracted to them till the summer of 2020.
Luton will play in the Championship this season after winning successive promotions- they were in League Two as recently as 2017.
