Greek club Panathinaikos have completed the signing of Djibril Cisse from Marseille for a fee in the region of £6.8million. The 27 year old was on loan at Sunderland last season and expected to complete a permanent move when the season drew to a close. Sunderland though decided not to pursue his permanent signing and the striker has moved to Greece.
Pana president Nikos Pateras said “Panathinaikos announces that it has reached an agreement with Djibril Cisse over a contract for four years,” on the clubs official website.
Cisse will become the highest paid player ever to appear for the Greek side having signed a four year contract worth a reported £2million per year. There had been speculation about the Frenchmen’s future ever since Sunderland decided not to sign him permanently and now the striker can look forward to European football next season with the Greens.
Meanwhile his old club Sunderland have been linked with a move to sign former Newcastle forward Peter Lovenkrands. The Danish internationals contract ran out at the end of last season, so he would be available on a free transfer.
The player himself has stated that he would think about a move to Sunderland, as his family are happy in the North East. However there is a host of other teams from home and abroad interested in acquiring his services this summer.
