According to reports from Spain, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Man City defender Eric Garcia and will sign the young defender on a free transfer when his contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the current season.
The 20-year-old, a La Masia product, moved to City in 2017, but rejected offers of a new deal earlier this season, leaving manager Pep Guardiola resigned to losing him. He made 20 appearances for City in the 19/20 campaign, but only 10 in the current 20/21 season, with Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte cementing themselves as Guardiola’s first choice centre-backs. His last league appearance for City came in March against Fulham, playing the final 15 minutes of the game as a replacement for Dias.
Garcia has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with the Catalan giants that will keep him at the Nou Camp till the summer of 2026.
The youngster was also capped by Spain last year and is expected to represent them at this summer’s European Championships. Barca are likely to officially make the announcement of his switch at the end of the current campaign, and if so, he will be their first major signing of the summer window.
