Croatia defender Josip Juranovic has left Scottish giants Celtic to join Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin. The fee is reported to be around £7.5m, with the potential to increase to £10m with add-ons, making it a tidy profit over the £2.5m that Celtic had paid Polish side Legia to acquire the right back’s services back in 2021.
The 27-year-old Juranovic was part of the Croatia side that finished third in the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar. They were beaten by eventual champions Argentina in the last four, but took third place by edging Morocco 2-1 in the play-off.
Juranovic had been linked with several clubs over the last few weeks, with the likes of Barca, Atleti and Chelsea all reportedly interested in his services. Speculations of a move away from Glasgow increased after the Bhoys signed Alistair Johnston, who plays in the same position as Juranovic, from MLS side Montreal.
Juranovic made over 50 appearances for Celtic and was part of their League and Cup double winning squad last season. He was also named in the PFA team of the year for 2021/22
Union are currently third in the Bundesliga table behind Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt at the time of writing.
