Cumbrians sign Embleton

Carlisle United have officially completed the signing of former England U19 midfielder Elliot Embleton. The 25-year-old has inked a three-and a half-year contract with the Cumbrians and leaves Blackpool just months after joining them in the summer.

Embleton was signed by Neil Critchley at Bloomfield Road, but first team opportunities became hard to come by after the latter was sacked and replaced by Steve Bruce. Embleton didn’t fit into Bruce’s formation and style of play and a parting of ways made sense for both parties.

Carlisle were relegated from League One at the end of the 2023/24 season and currently play in League Two, but are bottom of the table in the fourth tier as well at the time of writing. The Cumbrians will be hoping that Embleton, a well-travelled footballer with plenty of lower league experience, can help them avoid successive relegations.

Apart from Blackpool, Embleton has also represented the likes of Sunderland, Grimsby and Derby County. He scored in the 2022 League One Playoff final to help Sunderland earn promotion to the Championship.
Embleton has been capped by England at various youth levels. He was part of the team that won the 2017 Toulon Tournament and also represented them in the 2018 U-19 European Championship.
