Fulham skipper Danny Murphy has completed a shock move to relegated Premier League side Blackburn Rovers. The former Liverpool midfielder, whose contract at Craven Cottage was due to expire at the end of the 11/12 season, opted to drop down a division by signing a two year contract with Rovers. Fulham’s London neighbours Queens Park Rangers made a last minute attempt to hijack the transfer, but Murphy rejected their offer and announced that he would be joining Ewood Park.
Blackburn boss Steve Kean was delighted with Murphy’s acquisition, terming it a “pivotal moment” for the Lancashire club in their bid for promotion. Apart from Liverpool and Fulham, Murphy has also represented Crewe Alexandra, Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic in the past.
