There were some major deals on yesterday’s transfer deadline day. Arsenal pulled off the biggest signing of deadline day bringing in German international attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil for a £42.4million from Real Madrid.
Manchester united left it late, but it was confirmed just after 11PM that Marouane Fellaini had joined the champions from Everton for £27.5million. The Toffee’s invested £13million of that Fellaini fee in a deal to sign Wigan’s Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy.
The Merseysider’s also pulled off one of the signing of the day by signing highly-rated Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan deal. Manchester City’s England international midfielder Gareth Barry also joined Roberto Martinez’s team on a season-long loan.
Everton’s arch-rivals Liverpool completed their business very early by bringing in young defenders Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon for £7million, Mamadou Sakho for £18million from PSG and forward Victor Moses on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
Stoke were also active the transfer market signing Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic for £2million from Werder Bremen and Stephen Ireland on-loan from Aston Villa.
West Brom lost out to Everton in the race for Lukaku, but did indeed strengthen their attacking options. The Baggies broke their transfer record to bring in Stephane Sessegnon from Sunderland, in a deal believed to be worth £7million.
Steve Clarke’s club also signed Nigerian international striker Victor Anichebe from Everton for a fee in the region of £6million. France international midfielder Morgan Amalfitano also joined the club on a season-long loan deal from Marseille.
Meanwhile, Sunderland brought in Italian striker Fabio Borini on a season-long loan and his compatriot full-back Andrea Dossena on a two-year contract from Napoli.
