Ex Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is still hopeful of making England’s World Cup squad despite his moved to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.
The move to Major League Soccer is surely a step down from the Premier League but Defoe who scored twice on his debut for his new club hopes his performances across the pond will get noticed by England manager Roy Hodgson. Check out England’s latest World Cup odds
Defoe who has scored 19 times in 55 appearances for England was included in the squad for England’s last friendly match against Denmark on the 5th of March. England won 1-0 but Defoe never featured in the game.
Defoe said – “On a personal level, I’d like to score as many goals as possible for the club and go to the World Cup,” .
Defoe believes playing regularly for Toronto will give him a much better chance of securing a place in England’s 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup Finals in Brazil.
But he did acknowledged that with so many great players at Hodgson disposal getting into that final World Cup squad for Brazil may be difficult.
