Derby chase Stead and look to extend Stoor loan

Championship side Derby have made an enquiry about Ipswich striker Jon Stead. Derby have lost a host of strikers in recent weeks. They are currently without Steven Davies and Chris Porter who are long-term casualties. They have also lost on-loan Everton striker James Vaughan to injury.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane today denied that any contact had been made between the two clubs but admitted a deal could be a possibility. Stead has had previous experience of playing for the Rams having spent three months on-loan in 2006. He scored three goals in his 17 games while at Pride Park.

Derby boss Nigel Clough has admitted that the deal is probably along way off. He said: “Jon Stead is a player that we have asked about. However, I don’t think that there will be any movement in this direction at the moment.”

Clough also revealed that he wants to keep Fulham defender Fredrik Stoor at the club. The 25 year-old is on-loan at the Rams but is currently suffering from an ankle injury. Despite the injury the former Burton boss wants to extend the loan deal.

He added: “So long as Freddie is going to be fit a week after that game, we will look to extend the loan because he has settled in and done very well indeed. I think he has improved as each game has gone on. His ankle has reduced in size since Saturday – it was badly swollen after the Leicester game.”
