Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Victor Wanyama are all reportedly free to talk to other clubs as struggling Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly sanctions a mass-exodus from the North London club.
Rumoured whisperings of discontent within the Spurs dressing room have turned into all-out roars of fury as last year’s vanquished Champions League finalists fell to a 7-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich and then a 3-0 humbling by lowly Brighton and Hove Albion in successive games. Pochettino has seemingly lost the dressing room and, in order to combat insubordination within the squad, is apparently willing to let want-away players seek out alternative options.
Christian Eriksen was the subject of intense speculation linking him to Real Madrid over the summer. With his performances in the 2019/20 campaign reflecting his wish to leave, Pochettino might be wise to cash-in come January. Serge Aurier, meanwhile, has been nothing short of a liability at right-back this season – he too wouldn’t be missed by the Argentine manager. The other three players – Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama – look tired and sluggish. Perhaps they feel Pochettino has gone as far as he can with this Spurs side.
Ultimately, whether Pochettino is able to enact this radical squad overhaul might come down to which asset Spurs chairman Daniel Levy values more, his manager or his players
