Borussia Dortmund have officially appointed Edin Terzic as their new manager. The 39-year-old replaces Marco Rose, who was sacked after just one season in charge at Signal Iduna Park. Terzic has inked a three-year-deal that will keep him at the club till 2025.
Between 2008 and 2017, Dortmund had only two managers- Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel. Since then, they’ve tried Peter Bosz, Peter Stoger, Lucien Favre and most recently Rose, but none of them have been able to replicate Klopp ‘s success.
Terzic is not new to the Dortmund job- he was interim manager when the club parted company with Favre, and even guided them to a DFB Pokal title during that period. He has also worked with BVB in the past as a scout and assistant manager, and Dortmund will be hoping that his familiarity with the club will ensure long term stability.
BVB finished second in the 21/22 Bundesliga season behind Bayern, but their defence was a matter of concern- they conceded the most goals of any side in the top eight. They failed to qualify from their Champions League group and dropped down to the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Rangers in the knockout playoff round
