After a dismal start to the new season, which has seen Ipswich gain only a solitary point out of four games, Roy Keane has turned to Sunderland to sign new faces. Keane made a £5 million bid for the services of Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards, which has been accepted by Sunderland and the players will move to Ipswich after agreeing personal contracts. Both Leadbitter and Edwards were part of the Sunderland squad which gained promotion from the Championship under the guidance of Keane.
Carlos Edwards was infact signed by Keane from Luton for £1.4million in January 2007 and has failed to find a place in the starting line up while Albanian midfielder Lorik Cana’s arrival has limited the opportunities for Leadbitter.
Leadbitter’s agent Matthew Buck today confirmed that Sunderland have given him permission to open talks with Ipswich –
Buck said: “A fee has been agreed between Sunderland and Ipswich for Grant and we have been given permission to open talks with Ipswich. We are heading down for talks now and we will see what happens.”
Keane is also interested in signing central defender Nyron Nosworthy and winger Daryl Murphy. Both have been surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light and have been offered to Pompey and Hull City respectively.
