Spanish defender Jose Enrique has headed closer to an exit from St.James’ Park after reports emerged that Newcastle had accepted a £10m bid from Liverpool for his services. The popular Spaniard is thus expected to become the third high profile player to leave Tyneside this summer after club captain Kevin Nolan and combative midfielder Joey Barton. In fact Enrique and Barton were critical of Newcastle’s transfer policy on Twitter, leading to suggestions that the Magpies may ban their player from the popular social networking site.
Liverpool have long been admirers of Enrique who is expected to occupy the left back position, a troubled area for the Reds in recent times. Current manager Kenny Dalglish tried out several players in the position in the latter half of last season and eventually settled on using natural right back Glen Johnson on the left side of defence.
