Transfer deadline day is always interesting to watch in the Premier league and we often see some exciting and surprising transfers across the football league. While their Premier league rivals Liverpool managed to secure two very important centre-back signings, Everton was aiming to recruit in the attacking position and ended up signing Norwegian striker Joshua King, who has established himself at Bournemouth throughout the years.
With Dominic Calvet Lewin hitting a surprise form in the early part of the season, as of February he has entered a goal drought and Everton were looking to find a competitive player for him. Turkish international Under did not provide that and they were looking to sign a Premier league striker, with experience and someone who can be identified as a goal poacher. Injury that saw Calvert Lewin miss nearly two months further inspired Everton board to search their new substitute striker.
Across five seasons Joshua King netted 48 times for Bournemouth and he was having hard time in the Championship this season, failing to score in his 12 appearances. However, when Everton came calling, it was clear that King will be returning to the Premier league. Initially securing a six months deal, King will have the option to further extend his stay at the Goodison. At 29, he can still cut it in the top tier and if Everton’s style of play suit him, he will add to his tally of 48 Premier league goals.
Everton currently sit eight at the table and still haven’t given up on European spots next season. With James Rodriguez back in form and Richarlison hopefully as well, they might put a strong contest to the “big six” at the top and possibly claim one of Europa league places. The addition of Joshua King can certainly help that cause.
