Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson is undergoing a medical Birmingham, ahead of a £1million move to the Midlands. The player fell out with his club and country after breaking curfew on international duty. He was dropped from the Scotland team and was pictured making insulting gestures from the substitutes bench.
The Scottish FA made a statement after the gesture that Ferguson would never play for his country again. His club also suspended the midfielder and took away the captaincy. He managed to get back into manager Walter Smith’s plans, but it was almost inevitable that he would move to pastures new this summer.
Ferguson has played in England before having a largely disappointing two years at Blackburn between 2003 and 2005. He never really settled at Ewood Park and was soon heading back to his spiritual home of Ibrox. The 31 year-old will see the move as a fresh start and will be hoping it re-ignites his career.
Meanwhile Birmingham striker Cameron Jerome has signed a new five-year contract at St Andrews. City rate the 22 year-old very highly and he has played a crucial role at the club since arriving in 2006 from Cardiff. Jerome scored seven goals in Birmingham’s last campaign in the Premier League and will be hoping to do even better next season.
