Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Jesse Lingard on a free transfer. The forward was out of contract at Manchester United and has chosen to move to the City Ground on a one-year deal, with Forest returning to the Premier League this season after a gap of 23 years.
Forest were not the only club interested in signing Lingard- West Ham were very keen too, but it is understood that Forest’s financial offer was higher than that of the Hammers’, despite the latter also having the carrot of European football. Lingard, as you might remember, had a very successful loan stint at West Ham in the second half of the 20/21 season.
Forest have spent heavily in the current window- Lingard joins the likes of Lewis O’Brien, Harry Toffolo, Moussa Niakhate, Taiwo Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Brandon Aguilera, Giulian Biancone, Omar Richards, Dean Henderson and Wayne Hennessey as the new arrivals at the City Ground this summer.
The Premier League newbies, who earned promotion to the top flight by beating Huddersfield in the playoff final, will begin their league campaign with an away fixture against Newcastle. Their first home game, somewhat interestingly, will be against West Ham on 14 August.
