Newly promoted Nottingham Forest have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United. The 25-year-old will be at the City Ground till the end of the season, with Forest paying the entirety of his wages, but Steve Cooper’s side do not have an option to make the deal permanent.
Henderson will be hoping to replicate the success of his previous loan spell at Sheffield United, where he helped the Blades earn promotion to the top flight and then represented them with distinction in the Premier League as well, making 36 league appearances in the 19/20 season. His form under the sticks at Bramall Lane earned him a callup to the England national squad under Gareth Southgate.
The 25-year-old was initially named in England’s Euro 2020 squad but had to withdraw due to injury and will be targeting a spot on the plane to Qatar later this year. Game time has been hard to come by for Henderson at United, with the Red Devils choosing David de Gea as their No.1. He made only three appearances for United across all competitions in the 21/22 season.
Forest are returning to the Premier League for the first time since 1999, having earned promotion via the playoffs.
