Former Dortmund midfielder Jonas Hofmann has hinted at interest from Chelsea and a possible re-union with current Blues gaffer Thomas Tuchel, who has managed him previously at the Westfalenstadion.
In an interview with the Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper in Germany, Hofmann said that “it is possible that one or the other has already asked” when quizzed about potential interest from Premier League clubs, and Chelsea in particular.
Hofmann currently plies his trade with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga and earned his first senior cap for Germany late last year against Turkey. He has racked up close to 150 appearances across all competitions for Die Fohlen since joining them from BVB in 2016.
The 28-year-old is contracted to Gladbach till the summer of 2023, having inked a contract extension back in 2019 but reports in Germany suggest that a fee of around 16 million euros would be enough to prise him away from Stadion IM Borussia Park.
Gladbach, who qualified for the Champions League last season and are playing Manchester City in the Round of 16, are 9th in the league table, but are only four points behind Bayer Leverkusen, who currently occupy the final European qualifying spot.
