Days after leaving Crystal Palace by mutual consent, Max Meyer has opted for a return to the Bundesliga by signing on a free transfer with FC Koln. The medio has inked a short term till the end of the current 2020/21 season and his immediate priority will be to help Koln, who are currently third from bottom in the Bundesliga table, stay up.
Meyer’s signing was seen as a coup of sorts for Palace when they brought him to Selhurst Park on a three-year deal back in the summer of 2018, but things didn’t quite go as they would’ve expected. The 25-year-old didn’t make even a single league appearance for the Eagles in the current 20/21 campaign and asked for his contract to be terminated earlier this month as he wanted regular football. Palace, who were also keen to get his massive wages off their books, were only too happy to do so.
Meyer has been capped 4 times by Germany, earning the first of them back as a teenager in 2014. He was also Die Mannschaft’s captain at the 2016 Olympics.
Koln’s next game is against Arminia Bielefeld this weekend, and Meyer, who has been handed the No.13 jersey, could make his bow for them in that fixture.
