If reports are to be believed, Leicester City are also interested in Jesse Lingard and could make a move for the Manchester United forward this summer. Lingard is currently on loan at West Ham and has enjoyed an excellent start to his career with the London outfit, but there is no buyout clause inserted into the deal, meaning that any club wishing to buy him would have to negotiate a separate transfer fee with the Red Devils.
West Ham will reportedly attempt to make the deal permanent with skipper Declan Rice quoted as saying that he would like Lingard to be with them next summer as well. The 28-year-old Lingard was also on the scoresheet as the Hammers beat Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham 2-1 over the weekend to go fourth in the league standings.
United being unwilling to insert a buyout clause into West Ham’s loan deal indicates that there could still be a future for Lingard at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Whether United would be willing to sell Lingard to a Champions League rival remains to be seen- Leicester are third in the table currently, just behind the Red Devils, and remain on course to qualify for Europe’s marquee competition next season.
