Fulham have completed the signing of Swiss international defender Phillipe Senderos from Arsenal on a three year deal. Senderos nearly spent seven years at Arsenal after he joined the London club from Servette in 2003 but managed to play only 64 games for the Gunners during that time. Over the last couple of seasons, he had fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and spent the last season having unfruitful loan spells away at AC Milan and Everton.
Senderos will slot straight into Hodgson’s squad and fill the void left by the departure of Chris Smalling to Manchester United. Hodgson has been an ardent admirer of the strong Swiss defender whose progress he has closely followed since the former captained Switzerland at the under-17 World Cup back in 2002.
Fulham are also on the verge of finalising a £8million deal for striker Dieumerci Mbokani. The 24-year old Congo international has been scouted by West Ham and Everton as well, but Fulham sent a contingent to Liege to get the deal wrapped up.
